Newsletter 30th August 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians,

                    WELCOME/FÁILTE DO GACH DUINE.

It has been a magical summer weatherwise and we hope you all are returning to school with lovely memories of your holidays. We were greeted by many happy and excited children yesterday as the school term began and it is lovely to see everyone so healthy and refreshed after the break. A warm welcome to everyone and we hope it will be a very happy and successful school year for you at L.E.T.S.   A very special welcome to all families who are beginning a new journey in our school community. Firstly to our new little Junior Infants, who were brilliant and so settled on their first day.  We also have a number of new children joining classes throughout the school, who have already been warmly welcomed by their classmates and teachers. We welcome them and look forward to re-kindling old friendships and building new ones in this month of September.

We welcome all our staff and wish them the very best for the school year. Sadly we said goodbye to three of our staff members over the holidays. Yvonne [Junior Infants] has gone to Kildare E.T.  Yvonne has worked here for 15 years and has been a wonderful teacher, colleague and friend. She has contributed so much to the children and staff over the years and will be sadly missed. Yvonne had been commuting a long distance to school daily and has moved to be closer to home. Our very best wishes and thanks to her for all she has contributed to the school.

Louise who worked in our Outreach class for the past year has moved to St. Rose’s reading school in Tallaght. We have enjoyed working with Louise who showed great enthusiasm for everything that happened in the school. We thank her also for her contribution to staff and children, and to our Executive committee and wish her every success in her new post.

Rhona [sna] has worked in our Outreach classes for the past four years. Due to a reduction in our overall allocation of SNA’s, Rhona had to leave us at the end of June. We are really sorry to see this happen as she has been a hugely committed and valued member of our team. Rhona has a new post in Firhouse and we wish her every success for the future.

We welcome three new Staff members…. Helen Mannion who is teaching our Senior Infants , Eimear Mc Donagh who is teaching our second class and Jennifer Broe who is on our Special Education team, in a shared post with St. Andrew’s N.S.  We wish them every success and many happy years of  teaching in our school.

It has been a busy start to the term for our staff. Our SNA team began on Tuesday with a workshop on promoting positive behaviour. All our staff met on Wednesday for a planning day. It was very valuable having this opportunity to meet as a team before term began. In the course of the day we reviewed our Child Protection and Health and Safety policies, devised a yearly school calendar of events as well as establishing our priorities for the school year.

Our Child Protection procedures will be reviewed and ratified at our next B.O.M. meeting. Following this, they will be available to access on our school website and also on display in school reception.

We also want to thank John our caretaker, Veronica our secretary and  our cleaning staff Aidan, Monica and Fiona who have been working so hard over the month of August ,  setting up the school systems and ensuring everything was ready and the school was in tip top shape for the start of term ! All your hard work is very much appreciated !

You will have noticed that we got some of the front of the school painted over the holidays which looks really well. This is a long term project which we propose to complete in phases. Our thanks to Carl Allen and the Executive committee who organised and oversaw the work over the holidays. We also had a number of floors professionally repaired and sealed, as well as replacing more of our classroom furniture, thanks to Therese and Veronica for overseeing these two projects. Projects such as these are only possible due to the generosity and financial support we receive from our school community. Thank you again for your continued support.

Wednesday 5th September 2018 is the last day to purchase Pupil Personal Insurance.  You would have received the Insurance with your child’s Book List in June 2018.

Wishing you all a lovely week-end and a great school year !

Yours sincerely,

Mary
