What is Green Schools?

Green-Schools is Ireland’s leading environmental management and education programme for schools. Promoting long-term, whole-school action for the environment Green-Schools is a student-led programme with involvement from the wider community. The programme is operated and co-ordinated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce (FEE member for Ireland).

Green Team @ LETNS

Every year one student from each class (2 from 6th classes) is elected by their classmates to be a representative on the Green Team. The Green Team meet once a month to discuss targets and ideas to help our school achieve the next Green Flag.

Green Flags

So far our school has been awarded 4 flags for Litter and Waste, Energy, Water and Travel. We are currently working towards our 5th flag which is for Biodiversity. This is a two year process and our goals for our first year are to:

  1. Increase awareness of the importance of Biodiversity.
  2. To come up with ways to help and improve Biodiversity in our school.

Biodiversity Flag Updates

We have completed a survey to see how much our school already knows about Biodiversity. We will use the answers from this survey to help us create a plan to increase awareness of the importance of Biodiversity in our school.

We’re planning to map out the school grounds and identify areas where we can support and develop biodiversity. We will be asking all classes for ideas for projects that will help plant and animal life on the school grounds. Looking forward to Springtime and all the biodiversity it will bring. Keep up to date with Green Schools Developments on this page!
